Surgical Pathology

Overview

UCSF Surgical Pathology, under the direction of Dr. Bradley A. Stohr, is the largest clinical division in the Department of Pathology and consists of subspecialized surgical pathologists based at Mission Bay and Moffitt-Long Hospitals. Approximately 35K surgical specimens (excluding dermatopathology and cytopathology) are evaluated annually by a team of subspecialized pathologists with expertise in Breast pathology, GI/Hepatopancreaticobiliary pathology, Genitourinary pathology, Bone and Soft tissue pathology, Head and Neck Pathology, Thoracic pathology, Gynecologic pathology, Renal pathology, and Hematopathology. UCSF Surgical Pathology faculty are internationally recognized experts that draw consultations and observers from around the world.

Pathologists at the San Francisco VA Health Care System and the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, under the leadership of Drs. Laura Tabatabai and Stephen Nishimura, respectively, also sign out surgical pathology specimens and have affiliate faculty appointments in the UCSF Department of Pathology.
