Research and Clinical Interests

My clinical interests are centered around pulmonary pathology and administration overseeing the clinical operations of the anatomic pathology division at Zuckerberg General Hospital. My laboratory focuses on the interaction of cells with the extracellular matrix and how that interaction influences cell proliferation, migration and differentiation. We are particularly interested in diseases of extracellular-matrix remodeling of the lung (e.g. airway obstruction in COPD) and mechanisms of tumor immune evasion in lung and other cancers. The cytokine TGF-β is central to both COPD and cancer immune escape. We investigate the role of TGF-β in disease using a variety of approaches including structural biology, cell and molecular biology.
