Dr. Andrew D. Leavitt Awarded 2013 Kaiser Award

Dr. Andrew D. Leavitt, MD, Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Director of the UCSF Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant Laboratory was awarded the 2013 Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Classroom Setting. The presentation ceremony was held in Cole Hall in May. The teaching award was started in 1969 with funds provided by the HenryJ. Kaiser Family Foundation to support and recognize teaching excellence. Dr. Leavitt has been director of the hematology section of the second year medical school curriculum for nearly 10 years, and the course is consistently rated very highly by the medical students. Dr. Leavitt not only oversees the course, he provides lectures, directs small group sessions with students, and helps teach in the laboratory sessions within the class. The award is a wonderful recognition of his contribution to medical student education.
