Dr. Marta Margeta - 2026 Academic Senate Distinguished Service Award - Congratulations!

Dr. Marta Margeta, our Vice Chair of Education, has received the 2026 UCSF Academic Senate Distinguished Service Award. 

This prestigious award is given out annually to a member of the UCSF Senate faculty who demonstrates outstanding and creative services with a lasting and significant impact on the excellence of shared governance at UCSF, exceptional abilities in collaborating with the university’s many diverse stakeholders, and sustained excellence and promise in serving the UCSF Academic Senate. 

Marta currently serves as the Vice Chair of the UCSF Academic Senate and will become its Chair in 2027. She has a long-standing history of Senate service, both campus and system wide. Notably, in 2021, she served as the Chair of the University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication where she was instrumental in successfully negotiating a landmark UC–Elsevier transformative publishing agreement that significantly expanded open access opportunities for UC researchers. 

In addition to this incredible record of accomplishments, we are especially grateful to Marta in her recent role as the inaugural Vice Chair of Education, where she has already led numerous initiatives for the Department of Pathology over the past few years. 

This award serves as a testament to Marta’s long-standing devotion and service on behalf of UCSF and our Department.
