Principle Enzymatic determination of glycerol with glycerol phosphate-oxidase (GPO) after hydrolysis with lipoprotein lipase. No serum blank is performed.
Interpretation 1. Hypertriglyceridemia occurs in Type I hyperlipoproteinemia, markedly elevated; Types III, IV, V, moderately elevated; diabetes mellitus; pancreatitis; alcoholism; glycogen storage disease; hypothyroidism; nephrosis; pregnancy; gout.

2. Hypotriglyceridemia occurs in hyperthyroidism; malabsorption syndrome; hereditary abeta- or hypobetalipoproteinemia.
