Principle Phosphomolybdate color complex, read spectrophotometrically.
Interpretation 1. Increased: Vitamin D excess, fibrous dysplasia, Paget's disease, metastatic bone cancer, multiple myeloma, sarcoid, hyperparathyroidism.

2. Decreased: hypoparathyroidism, secondary hyperparathyroidism (renal rickets), rickets, osteomalacia.
Collection Instructions Refrigerate during collection.
Sample type 24 hour urine collection preferred (refrigerate during collection)
Min. Volume 5 mL
Normal range Urine, 0.4-1.3 g/24 hr (13-42 mmol/d) varies with intake.

1. Increased: bed rest.

2. Decreased: diurnal variations, alkaline urine with standing.
