Collection Instructions Send one requisition for each two bottle set. Indicate on requisition suspected diagnosis and how long bottles should be held.

Special instructions Use the routine bottles available from Lab Support Service (206-8199).

The laboratory must be notified if the culture needs to be held longer than 5 days for any reason; for example, suspected brucellosis, fungus infection or culture negative endocarditis. Mycobacterium avium and M. tuberculosis are slow growing and require special collection and special processing. See Mycobacteria Culture, Blood.
