In House Availability Routine
Principle The Siemens Centaur assay is a two-site sandwich immunoassay using direct chemiluminometric technology.
Interpretation 1. Serum increased: primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism due to renal failure and vitamin D deficiency.

2. Serum decreased: primary hypoparathyroidism, and tumor hypercalcemia.

3. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is normal in patients who have diseases associated with low total protein, albumin and total calcium but without parathyroid disease. The intact assay supercedes older assays such as C-terminal PTH, C-terminal midmolecule PTH, and N-terminal PTH.
