Item Value
Available Stat? Yes
Test code EDDP
Performed by? Chemistry
Sendout? no
Price range $$
In House Availability Stat or routine, 24 hours/7days
Principle Competitive immunoassay using CEDIA technology
Interpretation CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Methadone is a synthetic opioid used for the treatment of opioid dependence.

CUTOFF: 100 ng/mL.

Drug Detection Period (approximate guideline) = 2-4 days.

Positive results are not confirmed unless detected as part of a Drug Screen Urine, Comprehensive. At SFGH, 99% of positive screens for EDDP are confirmed. Confirmation can be performed as an "add on" test by special request if the specimen is available. Call the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory Medicine Resident (x65527, pager 415-443-2311) if you have questions about confirmation testing.

This assay for the major metabolite of methadone, 2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidine (EDDP) is the primary screening test for methadone exposure at SFGH. Individuals using methadone will produce positive test results for EDDP and for methadone (a separate assay). Some individuals may adulterate urine samples with trace amounts of methadone for the purpose of deception and subsequent diversion of methadone for personal profit. In this situation, the urine will be negative for the EDDP metabolite. Call the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory Medicine Resident (x65527, pager 415-443-2311) if you have questions about methadone testing and diversion.
Sample type Urine
Normal range negative
Stability Minimum 1 week at 2-8°C
