In House Availability In-house testing for RBC Folate has been discontinued at SFGH. With approval from the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory Medicine Resident on-call (206-5527, pager (415) 443-2311), this test is available through a reference laboratory.
Additional information On January 1, 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration mandated the supplementation of grains and breads with folic acid. This has resulted in a decrease in the number of cases of folate deficiency at SFGH and other hospitals throughout the U.S.
