Introduction
Established as a joint effort in 1997, Current Issues in Anatomic Pathology Course is organized annually by UCSF and Stanford University Pathology Departments and administered by the CME office at UCSF. The major focus of the course and the selected lecturers and topics are practical issues that directly impact patient care. The course is aimed at the needs of pathologists in private practice, academic pathologists, pathology residents, and fellows from California and around the country. Co-directors carefully consider and select world-renown experts in their particular fields, and the specific emphasis is on problem areas, timely topics, and recent advances in diagnostic pathology. Experts from Stanford University and UCSF School of Medicine also lecture on their specific topics of expertise to provide the state-of-the art. While all the lectures are geared toward practicing pathologist or the residents who wish to learn current practice standards, there is also sufficient amount of information and update on new techniques that are likely to become future standards.
The course is held in a congenial Californian style in a downtown hotel, and the faculty as well as the co-directors are on site to address questions, discuss issues. Some of us can even recommend excellent culinary delights and vintages from local restaurants and wineries.
We strive to make the course a truly rewarding experience for all participants, and constantly seek additional methods that will help to convey the critical issues in question. We are eager to listen to your comments and requests, and look forward to seeing you among us in the near future.
