UCSF provides comprehensive hematopathology diagnostic services, including bone marrow evaluation. The bone marrow service includes resident, fellow and attending physicians who work with the clinical services to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with hematologic disorders.
Currently, over 1200 bone marrows are reviewed on patients whose care is provided at UCSF. The Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology employ 8 full-time or part-time board certified Hematopathologists. Outside consultations are provided upon request. Consultation may be sent to the bone marrow service for review or to a specific faculty member on the Hematology/Hematopathology service. Specimens and/or slides may be referred to UCSF for bone marrow evaluation alone, bone marrow evaluation with ancillary testing, or ancillary testing alone.
